🚨 Las Vegas Flash Floods: Record 1.08-Inch Rain, Woman Rescued as Roads Reopen
“Record-breaking rainfall triggered dangerous flash flooding across Las Vegas, Nevada, leaving vehicles stranded, streets underwater and rescue crews responding to swift-moving floodwaters. In one dramatic incident, a woman trapped on top of her car was rescued as rushing water surrounded the vehicle. The National Weather Service recorded 1.08 inches of rain at Harry Reid International Airport on October 11, breaking the previous daily record of 0.78 inches. Some rain gauges around Centennial Hills measured more than 2.5 inches, highlighting how unevenly the storm struck the Las Vegas Valley. Flooding closed roads near the Strip, while mud, debris and downed power lines complicated cleanup operations. Now the situation is changing. Roads near the Strip have reopened, and the widespread flash flood threat has diminished as Las Vegas begins recovering from the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel. Isolated showers and localized flooding concerns remain possible, but the latest forecast no longer supports another widespread urban flood emergency. The floodwaters are receding but what will it take to fully restore the streets and infrastructure left behind?
