Would You Take a Driverless Taxi? Riding Zoox in Las Vegas
“While in Las Vegas, I tried Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving robotaxi service, for rides between ARIA Resort & Casino and MGM Grand. Unlike a traditional rideshare car, Zoox has no driver’s seat, no pedals, and no steering wheel. I used the app to find the rideshare area, started the ride from the touchscreen, watched how it handled stop signs and traffic, and compared the experience to a more traditional robotaxi design like Waymo. The ride felt strange at first, but after a few minutes, it became surprisingly normal. I also checked out the onboard music, climate controls, emergency releases, and the app’s step-by-step pickup directions. At the time of my visit, Zoox rides in Las Vegas were free during the public trial. That may change, so check the app for the latest details before you ride.
