Travelers offered thousands to give up seats during Las Vegas heat wave
“The hottest day of the year brought disruptions to air travel at Harry Reid International Airport, where more than 450 flights were delayed as airlines worked to ensure planes were light enough to take off in extreme heat. One traveler, Trish, said she was caught off guard when flight attendants announced that the heat meant weight restrictions and that about half the plane would need to get off. “We got offered $2,500 to volunteer to deplane because of weight restrictions due to the weather, so that’s something I’ve never experienced before,” Trish said. Trish arrived at Harry Reid International Airport at 1 p.m. on Friday but did not make it back home until Saturday.
