The Sistine Chapel of Rock Art is Hiding Near Las Vegas

“Sloan Canyon, just outside Las Vegas, is home to one of the large and important collection of rock art. With over 300 panels and thousands of individual carvings, this canyon has been called the “Sistine Chapel of Native American rock art.” Some of these petroglyphs date back thousands of years, created by ancient Great Basin cultures long before the modern city of Las Vegas existed. Later, Southern Paiute peoples also left their mark here, adding to a landscape that had already been significant for generations. From detailed images of bighorn sheep to abstract symbols whose meanings are still debated today, the walls of this canyon tell a story, but not one we fully understand. What we’re looking at isn’t a single moment in time, but layer after layer of human history, carved into stone. In this video, we explore Sloan Canyon, take a closer look at the petroglyphs, and try to piece together what we can about the people who came here long before us, and why this place mattered enough for them to keep coming back. ○ Gear we use: https://www.amazon.com/shop/sidetrackadventures ►Join us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/SidetrackAdventures ►Please subscribe for weekly updates showcasing some of our adventures: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdueDRFYPVgzPAAOM_bxVWA?sub_confirmation=1 ►Also please follow Sidetrack Adventures on Instagram: https://instagram.com/sidetrackadventures ►Music in this video is from Epidemic Sounds; use our link for a free trial: https://share.epidemicsound.com/v927fj”
