Las Vegas Uber drivers dealing with rising gas prices, falling tourism

“Colin Reed treats driving for Uber like a business, down to the way he dresses. “I try to make the experience as professional as I possibly can,” Reed said. He keeps his car clean and stocked with phone chargers and water for passengers, and he wears a self-made ‘Uber’ embroidered hat and shirt. “I do not want somebody to look at me and think I just rolled out of bed and threw whatever was on the floor and got into my car just so I could make a few bucks,” he said. But Reed says the bucks are getting fewer and fewer as gas prices rise. Gas is not covered in Uber’s contract with drivers, meaning higher fuel costs come directly out of what they earn.
