“As Las Vegas leaders look for ways to reverse a tourism slump, affordability has become a central concern for both visitors and locals who say the cost of staying on the Strip has gotten too high. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is trying to draw more travelers with its five-day sale this week, offering hotel discounts and other deals aimed at making a trip to Las Vegas more affordable. The push comes amid ongoing debate over whether high hotel room prices and resort fees are discouraging visitors — and what it will take to get tourists not only to return, but to keep coming back. The limited-time sale is not a long-term fix, and the broader conversation continues to focus on making the Strip more affordable over time. Ideas that have been raised include making parking free and lowering hotel room costs and resort fees. LVCVA data from July shows the average daily room rate on the Las Vegas Strip is more than $167, an increase of $30 since July 2019. Downtown, the average daily room rate is about $87.
