‘I suspected him all along:’ Parents react after arrest of Las Vegas man accused of wife’s murder

“A former Las Vegas youth pastor was taken into custody on Monday night. 48-year-old David Vander Meer is charged with murder and insurance fraud following the death of his wife at Zion National Park 20 years ago. Bernadette Vander Meer fell to her death while hiking on Angels Landings in August of 2006 when she was just 28 years old. Investigators at the time found the death to be “under suspicious circumstances,” but no arrests were made at the time. But the affidavit says investigators reopened the case after receiving information in 2022 from a former youth group member of Vander Meer’s.
