Hit-and-run reports rise more than 60 percent in Las Vegas after Nevada law change

“Hit-and-run reports investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department have increased by more than 60 percent this year, a jump police said largely reflects a change in Nevada law that made some parking lot hit-and-run crashes subject to criminal investigation. Metro recorded 2,796 hit-and-run reports through June 7, compared with 1,727 during the same period last year. Lt. Cody Fulwiler of Metro’s Traffic Bureau said much of that increase stems from a law that took effect Oct. 1, 2025, closing a loophole that previously excluded many crashes involving unattended vehicles on publicly accessible private property from Nevada’s hit-and-run statute.
