Opened originally in 1962 as the Tallyho, the property officially became the Arabian-themed Aladdin Hotel & Casino in 1966. It instantly secured its spot in pop culture history by hosting Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s iconic wedding in 1967. By the late 1990s, classic-era casinos could no longer survive the economic demands of modern Las Vegas megaresorts. The Strip was growing faster, louder, and more expensive. To make room for a massive, $1.3 billion new complex, developers decided the old property had to go. A brand-new Aladdin megaresort opened in its place in 2000, but lightning struck twice—it went into bankruptcy just a year later.
