And the Reality Is Far More Brutal Than the Movie…
“Casino is one of Martin Scorsese’s greatest gangster movies—but the true story behind it is even darker than Hollywood portrayed. This full-length Mafia documentary reveals the real people who inspired Sam “Ace” Rothstein, Nicky Santoro, and Ginger McKenna: casino operator Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, Chicago Outfit enforcer Tony “The Ant” Spilotro, and Geri McGee. Travel back to Las Vegas in the 1970s and 1980s, when organized crime controlled major casinos and millions of dollars were secretly skimmed for the Midwest Mob. From Rosenthal’s rise at the Stardust Casino to Spilotro’s violent criminal empire, the FBI investigation, the Hole in the Wall Gang, Geri’s tragic downfall, and the car bombing that Lefty miraculously survived, discover the real events that inspired Scorsese’s Casino. How much of Casino was true, and what did the movie change? This documentary explores the rise and fall of the Las Vegas Mafia, the Chicago Outfit, casino skimming, betrayal, violence, and the true stories behind the characters played by Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone.
