How the Las Vegas F1 Track Is Built on a Street That Never Closes

“How is the Las Vegas Grand Prix track built on a street that never closes? At one in the afternoon a gap in a concrete wall closes across Las Vegas Boulevard. By night the road is a Formula 1 circuit. Before dawn, taxis are back on the same asphalt. This cutaway follows one stretch of the Strip through a race day: 3,500 concrete barrier blocks placed at night from September, each carrying a steel debris fence; the 42 road openings where city roads cross the circuit, all closed on race day to seal 6.2 km of street; the temporary bridge that lifts Flamingo Road over the track and the tunnel that takes fans under the pit straight; 1,750 temporary lights switching on at dusk; the 1.9 km Strip straight taken flat out for about 21 seconds; the openings reopening after the session; and the blocks leaving after the race until the Strip is just a street again by December 24. Race week 2026: November 19–21.
