Las Vegas Strip to lose two major shows as Cirque’s “Mad Apple”, Wynn’s “Awakening” close

“Two well-known Las Vegas Strip productions are set to close in the coming weeks, raising new questions about how the city’s entertainment economy is changing as mega-venues and immersive experiences reshape what draws tourists. Cirque du Soleil’s “Mad Apple” will go dark Sept. 5 at New York-New York. The following month, on Oct. 10, “Awakening” at Wynn Las Vegas is closing. Shows remain a major reason visitors come to Las Vegas. Patricia and Eric, visiting from the Northwest, said their priorities have shifted over time. “In my early 20s I’d be like clubbing the whole day. Now, it’s definitely the shows and the food,” Patricia said.
