“Reno and Las Vegas are the fastest-warming cities in Nevada and rank among the fastest-warming in the entire country. Last year, Nevada state lawmakers passed a law requiring large jurisdictions to create short- and long-term plans to reduce the impacts of extreme heat. Dr. Ben Leffel, an assistant professor at the UNLV School of Public Policy and Leadership, says the entire city of Las Vegas is considered an “urban heat island,” but within it there are hotspots.
